The main difference between digital printing and traditional methods such as litho is that no printing plates are used, resulting in a quicker turn around time and generally less expensive. The most popular methods which are the two that we use include inkjet and laser printers that deposit pigment or toner onto a wide variety of substrates including paper, photo paper, canvas, vinyls and other substances.
Inkjet and laser printers have afforded us the most feasible practices of going green by using better quality ink and better laser etching to get a more crisp picture that is displayed through digital printing.
In these processes the ink or toner does not permeate the substrate, as does conventional ink, but forms a thin layer on the surface. In laser printing an additional process is required to adhere the toner to the substrate by using a heat process (ever wonder why the paper is hot when it shoots out of the photocopier?)
Digital is clearly the best option for small runs needed in a hurry, speak to us about special digital papers and substitutes for spot colours.
